Paul Roberts is an employee benefits educator and compliance expert, leading national education initiatives for insurance agents and employers across the country.
Paul has been a devoted employee of California- and Nevada-based Word & Brown General Agency for more than 15 years. He was a creative visionary in the launch and development of Word & Brown’s legendary in-house, homegrown employee benefits compliance team – which he still leads today.
Throughout his tenure with Word & Brown, he has performed nearly every operational role at the organization, which has a goal of providing insurance brokers access to better health insurance choices for their clients through service-based, company-focused relationships and education, backed by technology. Paul has considerable experience in health insurance product management, training, underwriting, broker technology, sales operations, and benefits compliance. He has a bachelor’s degree from California State University Fullerton, with an emphasis on Business Management. He earned his degree as a full-time student, while also working full-time at Word & Brown.
Paul can be found at many industry events across the nation delivering broker Continuing Education (CE) courses, and providing employer education as an accredited educator for the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI). He is also an educator for an array of elite national insurance agencies and their insurance professionals.
A highly active member of the National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals (NABIP), the National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals of California (NABIP - CA), and the National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals of Nevada, Paul is a frequent speaker to local association chapters across the country. He has served in various executive roles for NABIP - CA. He was recognized by NABIP in 2021 with the William G. Wetzel award for outstanding achievement in national public speaking and for promoting health insurance educational activities to agents. He is a frequent contributor to NABIP’s America’s Benefit Specialist magazine, and was recognized by Insurance Business America as an exceptional leader in insurance in its Hot 100 list for 2022.
Based in San Diego, California, Paul is passionate about diversity, inclusion, equity, education, and helping others. In his free time, Paul contributes to volunteer community clean-up efforts and homelessness resolution. Paul is an avid storyteller and improv actor, who loves to explore comedy, creative communication, and various forms of “play” on stage. He is a strong proponent of the women’s Girl Power movement from the 90s, and celebrates leadership of all forms, walks, and types. He is grateful for his opportunity to support insurance professionals, employers, and health care consumers and is committed to their successes.
