The National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals exists to advocate for its members and their clients, advance professional excellence through education and development, and provide the resources necessary to strengthen our profession.
Fulfilling that mission requires more than aspirational language. It demands decisive leadership, particularly when our industry faces significant or existential threats. Advocacy is not merely a function of NABIP’s purpose—it is a core obligation. If NABIP is to fulfill its vision of being “the preeminent organization” in the benefits and insurance marketplace, it must be prepared to proactively defend the interests of its members, the stakeholders they serve, and ultimately the healthcare consumers who depend on them.
To that end, NABIP will establish a formal governance process to identify, evaluate, and respond to material threats to the profession. Any committee or working group that identifies an issue with potentially significant impact on the industry should have a clear mechanism to elevate that concern to the Board of Trustees, with an expectation of timely review and appropriate strategic action. Leadership in this environment requires not only awareness but a clear and disciplined framework for action.
