NAHU Comments on Transparency in Coverage Proposed Rule
NAHU submitted comments to several departments in response to a proposed rule that would allow consumers to shop and compare costs between specific providers before receiving care, including receiving accurate estimates of any out-of-pocket costs they must pay to meet their plan’s deductible, co-pay, or co-insurance requirements.
In our comment letter, NAHU commends the administration for taking steps to increase transparency in healthcare. However, we note concerns about the practicality of these numbers, the rule's rapid timeline, the required methods for disclosing this information, the potential impacts of disclosing all negotiated rates in mass form, and more.
