Costa Rica receives more than 70,000 patients from around the world every year, seeking quality and affordable care in areas such as dentistry, orthopedics, bariatric surgery, dermatology, ophthalmology, and oncology.

Since 2010, Costa Rica has developed a successful program for US-based self-funded employers providing care at internationally accredited hospitals. This allowed US companies to contain costs without reducing healthcare benefits to employees.

The program consists of a “medical travel option” as part of existing benefit plans, where employees are offered the alternative of traveling for care to Costa Rican hospitals and receive additional benefits, such as copay exemptions and travel cost coverage.
