The Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, passed at the end of 2020, included a ban on balance-billing, otherwise known as surprise billing. “Part 1” of the much anticipated surprise-billing regulations was released earlier this month. This interim final rule is the first in what is expected to be a lengthy process of rulemaking from the administration that will last well into the fall.
